driving questions for capstone website
* Is your driving question the same thing that you wrote about in your capstone paper? How has your focus changed?
My initial driving question centered on how digital writing tools and 21st Century skills could be used to encourage active student participation throughout the writing process. My new driving question focuses on how digital writing tools can be used to nurture interest within students to write longer pieces of writing, and motivation to write more. I found in my study that my writing students quickly lost interest in the writing project. They used Google Docs which they found to be overwhelming. After several interviews, I found that the reason they found Google Docs overwhelming and stressful is that unlike paper, students could not see the end of the "page," therefore they could not see the end of the writing task.
To answer the question is my driving question the same as before? Yes and no. I think I've expanded my focus by including how to not only encourage active participation, but interest and self-motivation.
*What is your statement of inquiry?
How can digital writing platforms, like Pixton and Storybird, be used to motivate reluctant writers?
* Who is your audience?
My hope is that any teacher who would like to incorporate writing into their curriculum will find my capstone project illuminating and useful.
