The Effect of Computers on Student Writing:- A Meta-Analysis of Studies from 1992 to 2002
by Amie Goldberg, Michael Russell & Abigail Cook
This hefty journal was published by the The Journal of Technology, Learning, and Assessment (Volume 2, Number 1 · February 2003) through Boston College (www.jtla.org)
Fifty-two pages of statistics and data may seem laborious, however the authors' writing style creates a fast-paced, eye-opening reading experience. Combining data and statistics from several studies conducted between 1992 and 2002 on the effects of technology-based writing instruction on student performance, the authors have written a a document with information that is relevant to today's writing climate in schools.

The Effect of Digital Storytelling in Improving the Third Graders' Writing Skills
by Ahmet Yamac (Erciyes University, Turkey) and Mustafa Ulusoy (Gazi University, Turkey)
First published in the International Electronic Journal of Elementary Education (v9 n1 p59-86 Sep 2016).
I chose this article because it seemed to go hand-in-hand with the book The Flat World and Education. Written by university researchers from Turkey, I was intrigued to read an international perspective on how technology, especially computers, effects children in other parts of the world.
Yamac and Ulusoy investigated the effects of digital storytelling in improving the writing skills of students in rural elementary schools. Student writing skills were tested before and after they were taught "digital storytelling." According to the article, "the results indicated that digital storytelling enhanced students' ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions in terms of writing quality. Similarly, the digital storytelling improved story elements and word counts in stories." Importantly, research data showed that digital storytelling proved to be a valuable tool in developing students' literacy perceptions, competency, and skills. A happy benefit was that the researchers learned that the use of computers in the classroom helped improve collaboration among students and motivation to write.

Teachers and Technology: Present Practice and Future Directions
by Isha DeCoito and Tasha Richardson
Found in Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education (CITE Journal), v18 n2 2018
"Technology cannot be effective in the classroom without teachers who are knowledgeable about both the technology itself and its implementation to meet educational goals. While technology use in the classroom is increasing, improving learning through its application should remain the goal." (DeCoito and Richardson, Abstract)
This article is a must read for all teachers who are considering using technology in the classroom. The message is clear: as a teacher you must understand not only the why, but the how. Many of us, believe that technology is extremely beneficial in the classroom, but how many of us actually know how to use it. It is written for a secondary school audience, but elementary teachers will benefit from this enlightening article, too.

For this assignment, I used two research resources, eric.ed.gov and scholar.google.com. In my opinion, eric.ed.gov is a much better tool. I found so many more relevant articles to my driving question than I did on scholar.google.com. I high;y recommend trying eric.ed.gov first in your research journey.
